I watch a lot of football. And I don’t get the hype around Patrick Mahomes. There. I said it. Kill me.
I grew up watching the Seahawks with Russell Wilson. And in my opinion, in his prime, he did a lot more crazy things than Patrick Mahomes ever did or will do. Now he’s a good QB and everything just not top 5 right now. And don’t ever compare him to Tom Brady.
Mahomes is a lazy football player. He relies on his arm to make great plays and lofts the ball up into dangerous scenarios. Go back and watch the interception against the falcons this past Sunday and you will understand. He has far too many careless turnovers to be called the next “Brady”
Mahomes is not a pocket passer. He relies on his legs and athletic abilities to get the job done. Just like Russell Wilson used to. Mahomes will fall off soon. If you watch a guy like Lamar Jackson, he is way more important to his teams success. Lamar can sit back there in the pocket and pick you apart with the short and intermediate passes without leaving the pocket.
He can run designed runs and he is the most electric player we have ever seen at the QB position. Lamar can improvise when needed, but he does not rely on it. He has never had the supporting cast that Mahomes had or the coaching that Mahomes has to scheme guys open. He is the offense.
Guys like, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Geno Smith, Kyler Murray, CJ Stroud, are all better than Patrick Mahomes.
Josh Allen is insane. He can run he can throw. He can do both. But he isn’t limited. The way that he sits back and picks apart defenses is beautiful.
Geno Smith is someone I could be a little biased about. He has a terrible Offensive line, but he finds a way to make it work and make the offense succeed. And I will die on a hill saying that none of his turnovers are his fault this year.
Kyler Murray is the most athletic improviser I have ever seen. Short, yet so fast and quick and such strong arm. He does what Mahomes does, just at a more athletic level.
And finally CJ Stroud. He is better than Patrick Mahomes because he is intelligent, and he gets the balls to his playmakers and doesn’t overcomplicate the process.
Patrick Mahomes is going to fall off. Bookmark this article right now. Because in 5 years you are going to look back on this and ask yourself “why did I think he was better than Brady?” At this point Lamar will be in that conversation. He is basically Peyton Manning just a lot more awesome.
